The Maharaja Trophy T20 tournament is the premier domestic Twenty20 cricket championship of Karnataka. Organized by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), this tournament has become immensely popular since its inception in 2009.
Modelled after the successful IPL, the Maharaja Trophy works on a franchise-based system with teams playing a round-robin league followed by playoffs.
After being known as the Karnataka Premier League for over a decade, the tournament was rechristened to Maharaja Trophy last year, drawing its name from the Maharaja of Mysore.
Maharaja Trophy T20 2023 Tournament Schedule
The 7th edition of the Maharaja Trophy T20 is scheduled to be held from August 12 to 29, 2023. All the matches will take place at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru which has a capacity of over 40,000 spectators. The matches are slotted for 1 PM and 5:30 PM start times.
Maharaja Ttrophy T20 2023 Teams
This year, 6 teams will be participating in the tournament. They are:
- Gulbarga Mystics (Defending Champions)
- Mangaluru Dragons
- Mysore Warriors
- Bengaluru Blasters
- Shivamogga Lions
- Hubli Tigers
While old rivals like Gulbarga, Mysore and Bengaluru return, Mangaluru and Shivamogga are the two new franchises added to the mix this season.
Maharaja Trophy T20 2023 Player Auction
Ahead of the tournament, a player auction was held at M Chinnaswamy Stadium where 700 cricketers went under the hammer. The franchises had 18 player slots to be filled through the auction. Some prominent names picked by teams in the auction include:
- Abhinav Manohar to Shivamogga Lions for Rs 15 Lakhs
- Mayank Agarwal to Bengaluru Blasters for Rs 14 Lakhs
- Devdutt Padikkal to Gulbarga Mystics for Rs 13 Lakhs
- Manish Pandey to Hubli Tigers for Rs 10.30 Lakhs
- Manoj Bhandage to Mysore Warriors for Rs 9 Lakhs
- Nikin Jose to Mangaluru Dragons for Rs 7 Lakhs
