The long-awaited Asia Cup 2023 schedule has finally been unveiled, ending the suspense among cricket fans. Surprisingly, the tournament is set to kick off on August 30, a day earlier than initially anticipated, adding to the excitement.
This edition of the Asia Cup has witnessed a series of dramatic incidents, making it one of the most talked-about tournaments in its history.
Initially slated to be hosted solely by Pakistan, the tournament underwent significant changes due to the BCCI’s denial and several discussions. Eventually, a hybrid format was agreed upon.
Under this new format, the Asia Cup will be jointly hosted by two countries: Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Four matches will be held in Pakistan, while the remaining nine will take place in Sri Lanka.
The competition will commence in Multan, with Pakistan locking horns with Nepal in the opening encounter. The grand finale is scheduled to take place in Colombo on September 17, promising an exhilarating climax to the tournament.
As always, all eyes will be on the intense clashes between arch-rivals India and Pakistan. In Kandy, the two teams will face each other twice, once during the group stage on September 2 and then again in the super four round.
In the Super 4 round, Pakistan and India will retain their positions as A1 and A2, regardless of their rankings in the first round.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will secure positions B1 and B2, respectively. If Nepal and Afghanistan manage to reach the Super Four stage, they will replace any eliminated team, keeping the competition unpredictable and thrilling until the very end.

Asia Cup 2023 Format
The upcoming Asia Cup 2023 is set to bring back the excitement of the ODI format, adding a new dimension to the tournament.
This means that the competition will be contested in 50-over matches, marking a return to the traditional format after a considerable gap.
The Asia Cup was last played in the ODI format back in 2014. Subsequently, starting in 2015, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) made the decision to conduct the tournament in the T20 format.
This move aligned with scheduling the tournament around the T20 World Cup in those respective years.
However, with the ODI World Cup scheduled to take place in October and November this year, the ACC has taken a strategic approach to preparing the teams for the prestigious event.
As a result, the Asia Cup 2023 will be played in the 50-over ODI format, providing valuable practice and exposure to the teams in their journey toward the next World Cup.
