The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 East-Asia Pacific (EAP) Qualifier is scheduled to take place in Papua New Guinea from 22nd to 29th July. This tournament will play a crucial role in determining the teams that will participate in the main event held in the West Indies and the United States.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be the largest edition ever, featuring 20 teams. Twelve teams have already secured their place, including the host nations, USA and West Indies, along with the top eight teams from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 – Australia, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.
Afghanistan and Bangladesh also earned their spots as the top two best-ranked unqualified teams in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings as of 14th November 2022.
The remaining eight teams will come through regional qualifiers from various regions such as America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and East Asia-Pacific.
The EAP Qualifier will witness four teams competing in 12 matches over eight days in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. The winner of this qualifier will secure the final spot in the main T20 World Cup event.
The tournament format will involve the 20 teams divided into four groups of five each. The top two teams from each group will proceed to the Super Eight phase, where they will be split into two groups of four teams. The top two teams from each group in the Super Eight phase will advance to the semi-finals.
The regional qualifiers from Europe, America, Africa, and Asia will take place at different locations and dates, and the winners from each region will qualify for the main event in 2024.
The cricketing action in these regional qualifiers will determine the final line-up of teams competing in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, making it a highly anticipated and competitive tournament.
