IPL 2024 Auction to Host In Late December, Check Dates

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is facing a few scheduling challenges in preparing for the IPL 2024 auction, which is scheduled to take place later this year. The auction, set for December, will likely coincide with India’s tour of South Africa, which starts on December 10.

To avoid further clashes, the BCCI intends to ensure that the IPL 2024 auction does not fall on Christmas Eve and avoids any international matches. The Indian team is also scheduled to play a Test match against South Africa on ‘Boxing Day’ this year.

In an article published by Insidesport, A BCCI official stated that they are aware of the scheduling concerns and will try to find a suitable date that works for everyone.

“The specific date for the auction will be decided after the completion of the World Cup. The tentative plan is to hold it in the third or fourth week of December, but the final decision will be made during the IPL Governing Council meeting”, The Official added.

Last year’s IPL 2023 auction faced challenges due to accommodation issues during the packed holiday season. Therefore, the BCCI is considering several potential venues for the IPL 2024 auction, including Mumbai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Kochi, and Kolkata.

Despite being a ‘mini auction,’ the total budget for the IPL 2024 teams is set to increase to Rs 100 crore, up from Rs 95 crore.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK), led by MS Dhoni, are the defending champions, and fans can look forward to an exciting event as the cricketing world gears up for another thrilling season of IPL action.

Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir to play in IPL 2024?

There is speculation that Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir might play in IPL 2024, as he is set to obtain British citizenship. In a recent interview with a Pakistani news channel, Amir clarified that he has no plans to play for England despite the opportunity. However, he hinted that he might be interested in playing in IPL 2024, which is still a year away.

Amir’s eligibility to participate in IPL would come through his British passport. Once he acquires it, he will be eligible to represent England in cricket as well as take part in IPL.

If he indeed joins IPL 2024, Amir will become the second Pakistani national team player to play in the tournament with a non-Pakistani passport.

The first was all-rounder Azhar Mahmood, who played for Pakistan from 1996 to 2007 and later featured for Kings XI Punjab in 2012 and 2013, and Kolkata Knight Riders in 2015.

Another example is Imran Tahir, who now holds a South African passport and plays for Chennai Super Kings. Although Tahir had represented Pakistan’s ‘A’ side, he never made it to the main national team.

The only instance when players from Pakistan were allowed to participate in IPL was in the inaugural season of 2008. Players like Shoaib Akhtar, Younis Khan, Salman Butt, and Sohail Tanvir had the opportunity to feature in the tournament that year.
