ICC World Cup 2023: Pakistan demand change of venue
In response to the concerns raised by the Pakistan cricket team about the venues for their matches in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, Indian off-spinner R Ashwin shared his thoughts on the matter.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin expressed his belief that the ICC is unlikely to accommodate the request.
Ashwin pointed out that in Pakistan’s request letter, they mentioned that the conditions in Chennai would favor Afghanistan.
Therefore, if the venues were changed, it would potentially give an advantage to Pakistan. Considering this, Ashwin highly doubted that the ICC would pay heed to the request.
He mentioned that if Pakistan had presented valid security reasons, then there might be a possibility of venue changes.
Ashwin emphasized that the request made by Pakistan to switch venues was an interesting one. Currently, Pakistan is scheduled to play against Australia in Bangalore and Afghanistan in Chennai.
Pakistan’s request is to interchange these venues, citing security reasons. According to Ashwin, the ICC will only consider such requests if they are based on valid security concerns.
